QSO Groups

Up   Back   Next   Example

The ability to create QSO Groups is another powerful feature in SWISSLOG. It allows you to maintain lists of QSO's which need special attention or treatment. For example you can create QSO Groups for various awards. The QSO Group list will then contain all QSO's you have selected to apply for the award. QSO Groups are also used to manage the QSL-Printing. Therefore, one internally defined QSO Group contains all QSO's you have selected for QSL printing with help of the 'Print QSL Card Wizard'.

QSO Groups can also be used as the source for logbook views and reports. You can work with QSO Groups using the same techniques you would use to manage your Logbook. It may be helpful to think of QSO Groups as sub-logbooks within the main logbook.

Add QSO's to a QSO Group

Example

QSO's may be added to QSO Groups from Logbook Views or from Pivot Table Views.

To add QSO's to a QSO-Group proceed as follows:

Select the QSO Group you want to add QSO's to by opening one of the following views:

  • Press the button and select the group from the Target-Group list box.

  • Right-click and select Create a QSO-Group...

  • Using the QSO-Group Selection dialog window, select the group you want to add QSO's to.

Add the QSO's:

You can add individual QSO's or all of the QSO's displayed in the current view. That means, that you can either select the QSO's manually, or use one of the Swisslog selection functions to locate the QSO's to be added. See Logbook View for the selection functions available in SWISSLOG.

The various selection functions include: the selection tabs, the manual selection criteria (manual tab), the filter function, or a special report you have designed with the report generator.

  • The easiest way to manually add QSO's is to click on the QSO's using the mouse.

Hint: To select a block of QSO's (meaning several QSO's that appear one after the other in your log) – click on the first QSOthen press and hold the Shift keythen click on the last QSO in the block. The block of QSO's that you selected will be highlighted.

To select several QSO's which are not in a contiguous block, use the mouse in combination with the Ctrl key. Click on the first QSO
then press the Ctrl key and hold it down while selecting another QSO with the mouse. To select additional QSO's, click on them with the mouse and remember to press the Ctrl key.

You can combine the two techniques described above
by using the mouse and Shift key when selecting blocks and the by using mouse and Ctrl key for selecting single QSO's. For example, you can select a block QSO's and then unselect individual QSO's within the block by using the mouse and Ctrl key. You can also scroll the logbook display and continue the selection process.

Hint: If you need to find and select a large number of QSO's, it may be easier to use one of the many filtering or selection functions within the Logbook View, or a combination of filtering and manual selection. For complete details on the Logbook View functions click here.

Next, press the button to add the selected QSO's to the group.

  • To add displayed QSO's – select the QSO's with help of the selection functions. See Logbook View for the selection functions available in SWISSLOG.

Next, press the button to add the displayed QSO's to the group.

Monitor the QSO Group:

You can open a Group View window to display the QSO's which belong to the group. This allows you monitor and verify which QSO's have been added to the QSO Group.

To open the group view window press the button.

QSO Groups in Views and Reports

QSO Groups can be used as a source for Logbook Views and Reports. If you select a QSO-Group as the source all operations are performed only on the QSO's contained in this group.

To select a QSO Group as source proceed as follows:

  • Activate a Logbook View.
  • In the Logbook View, right-click and select the function QSO Source ¦ Group this will bring up the QSO-Group Selection dialog window. Next, from the list of available groups, select the group you want to display.
  • From now on, only the QSO's contained in this group are used for all functions performed in the Logbook-View. You can select Edit/Delete QSO's and Print Reports – see important note below:

IMPORTANT: Delete completely and definitely deletes the QSO entry from the Logbook not just from the QSO Group. To delete a QSO only from the QSO Group use the QSO Group View command.

To return to your normal Logbook View as opposed to the QSO Group View:

  • Click on the Close button the QSO Group View will close.

  • Open a Logbook View by selecting View ¦ Logbook (Selection) from the main menu. This will bring up two windows: the View Logbook window which is partially hidden by the active window labeled Open SWISSLOG Report or Query. On the left side of the window, there is a list of the Query directories and sub-directories. Click on the Logbooks directory and a list of Queries will appear at the right. Select the query that you normally use for viewing your Logbook.

  • The dialog window will close and your log will appear in the View Logbook window.
