WSJT-X 2.1.2, SWisslog, OmniRig and FT-1000MP
Hello. I get some strange error messages when trying to use Omnirig for CAT control with Swisslog and WSJT-X at our clubstation, OH2K. The radio is Yaesu FT-1000MP.

Sometimes, but not every time, WSJT-X says there is a problem with the radio inteface and prompts me to reconfigure it. Today, when operating on 80 meters FT8, (TX between 100 and 1500 HZ) I realised that even if WSJT-X changed between 3573 and 3572.5, the rig did not revert back to 3573 on receive, but stayed on 3572.5 after the tx period had finished. Changing my tx freqyency above 1500Hz fixed that.

Is it necessary to run all the three programmes with administrator rights to make this function properly? Also, I wonder about the settings for OmniRig. I use COM1, 8, N, 2, but what about the other settings? Any hints?

RE: WSJT-X 2.1.2, SWisslog, OmniRig and FT-1000MP
Hello Tom,

Because OmniRig can't be installed in another folder different than C:\Program Files (x86) (which is a system protected folder), you can try to force running OmniRig as administrator (do this directly in the OmniRig.exe located in the  C:\Program Files (x86)\Afreet\OmniRig folder). However, first try to run all programs without administratoro rights. If you still have issues, run all 3 programs as administrator. According to my experience, most times there is no need to run OmniRig as administrator (and force Swisslog and other programs using OmniRig to do the same). But in case of problems, running all programs as administrator solved the issue.

However, and according your explanation, I guess a RF problem instead of a setup problem. I have experienced exactly the same issue as you explain and the reason was RF. More noticeable if using a linear amplifier and in low bands (as in your case). Add ferrites to ALL computer cables (USB CAT cable, keyboard, mouse, screen, etc).  And also to all coaxial cables in your radio shack (Toshiba ZCAT2132-1130 which is the best for RG-8 cable).

I will try your administrator solution. I really doubt this is an RF issue, specially since the problems start when starting WSJT-X, and there is a warning that this happens before anything is transmitted. Also this occurs when running barefoot, , no amplifier, and maximun 20-30 watts output.

WSJT-X simply does not recognise the rig, and says there is a timeout error waiting for the rig to respond, and then prompts me to reconfigure the radio in the setup of WSJT-X. When I finally got WSJT-X started with Omnirig, it seems like using "split" instead of "fake it" works. My next visit to the club won't be until next week due to a very busy pre-christmas schedule. I'll keep you informed of any progress. Attached screen dumps.

Hi Tom,

I know that for some Yaesu transceivers you need to use OmnIrig 1.16 or 1.18 otherwise WSJT-X don't work well. This issue don't happen if using JTDX. I don't know the reason but I can confirm this because one Swisslog user from Argentina experienced this with his FT-897. Try to install OmniRig 1.16 or 1.18 instead latest 1.19.

OK. Will try that. But I have problems finding versions 1.16 and 1.18.
Any hints?

Quite often, this error is due to a longer polling time than is optimum. I am not saying this is the reason here, but so prevalent is the problem that after a Swiss guy obtained the rights to Omnirig, he improved its operation immeasurably including reducing the interval time. Version 2.0 is at  http://www.hb9ryz.ch/omnirig/ and it is worth trying just to see if there is any difference.

Erik.

Give it a try and let us know the results! This version supports up to 4 rigs. I contacted him to send me the file I need in Delphi to allow handling Rig3 and Rig4 but I'm still waiting for an answer... it was one and half year ago... I will send another e-mail!
