Dear users,
Most firewalls and antivirus look out very strictly all external connections of applications. Swisslog (and many other ham radio applications) do a lot of things! Swisslog exchanges info with many programs via UDP, TCP, XML, DDE connections, connects to internet to send and receive data, give system orders to start certain programs… Summing up: from the point of view of firewalls and antivirus (unfortunately) Swisslog is detected as “dangerous” and block its normal functioning. The bundle is served!
Here some examples:
- Panda antivirus blocks the installation or update of Swisslog. This also may happen when using AVAST or AVG antivirus.
- Windows Defender may warns that Swisslog could be a virus.
- Windows Firewall and Windows Defender normally tend to block the normal functioning of Swisslog, blocking writing permissions to the configuration file and many other unexpected things.
In case of Swisslog installation, the solution is simple: disable temporally the antivirus, install or update Swisslog then enable it again. In Windows Defender, if detected as virus, press "More Information" and "Run".
After Swisslog is installed, I highly recommend
you add an exception to Swisslog and other ham radio applications (such as WSJT-X, JTDX, MixW, etc) in your antivirus and firewall (
BOTH!). This way you will avoid many issues that are not related to any Swisslog bug but a firewall and antivirus proper configuration.
